Update
December 26, 2007
At the end of this month it will have been four years living in the upstairs apartment built over Mom's house. I have loved every day in my little tree house. The view changes with every season, I enjoy watching the neighbors come and go from the park, and I don't regret a minute(or a penny) spent planning and building this home!

Pre-Construction Journal
7/8/03
- Seems like we should have been well under way by now, but permits
and the loan processing takes forever! We did buy a 25' "escape
pad" for mom which is now parked in the driveway and my tent
trailer is now in back, just in case I need to escape as well. We
got three bids and found our contractor, Cy Lyon. He's pretty willing
to work with me on saving money and is up front about the whole
process, so I'm looking forward to working with him. We have a storage
container coming tomorrow to store antiques, paintings, etc, bascially
stuff we don't want ruined or covered with dust. I expect we will
be tearing the roof off by the end of the month!

4/17/03 -
We got through our prelimiary review with the City of Goleta's
"Design Review Board" For the most part, they really liked
the design! Only change request was for the upstairs picture windows,
they are too "contemporary" WHATEVER!

9/12/02 - Sometime in the future,
I will have a lovely upstairs apartment over looking a park. But,
not until the architect finishes the
drawings, the engineer make changes to the architects plans, the
architect redraws them, the new City of Goleta provides all the
permits, we hire the contractors, tear off the roof and live through
unbearable turmoil in our home. On the bright side, I get to Enjoy
the Process!
