Cedar - A whole new agility game!
So, it was time to get a new agility partner since Violet was getting older and would one day have to retire from agility. Getting a new dog would be different this time. I'd learned so much about dogs, especially labradors in agility. Labs are my chosen breed, but there are different "styles" of labradors. The American Field Lab, mostly from the midwestern parts of the country, are bred to be fast, lean and have high drive. So, with the help of some of my dog club labrador experts, we found Cedar's breeder in Wisconsin. Cedar flew home in the seat right next to me, in June, 2005.
Cedar has proven to be an entirely different kind of agility dog than Violet. The biggest difference is her high drive and eagerness to learn! She picks up on new skills so quickly that I would stand in the middle of the field with my mouth hanging open in awe of this amazing little labrador. Her speed has presented a whole new challenge for me! I have to really step it up and make the most of this terrific new partner. No more relaxing on the course and "going with the flow." My actions on the course have to have split second timing or mistakes are made.
She started competing in December of 2006 and as of this posting in August, 2007, she has earned 5 novice titles. She is so much fun to run and I am really excited about our time on course for the years to come!
